The American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standards C509 and C515 set the minimum design requirements for resilient seated gate valves. The tensile strength of the cast ductile iron is 65,000 psi with a 12% elongation property. The tensile strength of most cast grey iron is 30,000?psi with less than 1% elongation.
